About the event
Join Holy City Birding & the Charleston Parks Conservancy for a FREE morning Bird Walk at West Ashley Greenway!
The West Ashley Greenway is a fantastic 8 mile trail through West Ashley. The former railroad is part of the City of Charleston’s Park system and extends from Albermale Road to Main Road. The trail is a popular location for residents and visitors to walk and bicycle along neighborhoods, woods, fields, creeks, and marshes. This Bird Walk will focus on the West end of the Greenway between mile marker 7 and 8 (near Main Road). This leg of the trail has vast tidal marsh with wooded growth alongside the trail. There is a Wooded area at the beginning of the trail. The Greenway attracts a variety of birds throughout the year including shorebirds, waging birds, songbirds, gulls, woodpeckers, raptors and more! During the Summer months this is a great hotspot to find Roseate Spoonbills and Painted Buntings! The West Ashley Greenway MP7-8 is Charleston County eBird Hotspot #41 with 170 bird species recorded.
