Painted Bunting & Roseate Spoonbill Tour
Seasonal • Limited Availability
Tour Description
Join us for a seasonal guided birding experience along the West Ashley Greenway focused on two of Charleston’s most sought-after species: the vibrant Painted Bunting and the striking Roseate Spoonbill. During the summer months, this area becomes one of the best places in the region to observe these birds in their natural habitat. We will explore a mix of woodlands, maritime forest, salt marsh, and tidal creeks, giving us excellent opportunities to encounter a variety of species while focusing on these seasonal highlights. This tour follows a flat, former railway path and covers approximately 1.5 miles round trip at a relaxed pace. The experience lasts about 1 hour and 30 minutes, allowing time to locate and observe target species. Each participant will receive a Holy City Birding patch. This tour is offered on select dates from June through August when tidal conditions and bird activity are optimal. Binoculars are recommended, and rentals are available if needed. Please wear comfortable walking shoes and dress for the weather. What to Expect • Focus on Painted Buntings and Roseate Spoonbills • Peak seasonal bird activity (summer months) • Easy, flat walking route (about 1.5 miles round trip) • More targeted birding experience than standard tours • Small group setting (max 6 participants)
