Experience Details

Join us for a guided birding experience at the scenic Pitt Street Bridge, one of Charleston’s most productive and accessible birding locations. This easy, picturesque walk offers stunning views of Charleston Harbor and the Ravenel Bridge while exploring a rich salt marsh habitat. With more than 245 bird species recorded, Pitt Street Bridge is one of Charleston’s premier birding destinations. Its mix of salt marsh, shoreline, harbor, and live oak habitat means every tour is different, with opportunities to see everything from Clapper Rails and Roseate Spoonbills to Osprey, herons, shorebirds, and seasonal migrants. This tour is relaxed and beginner-friendly, making it a great option for anyone looking to experience birding in Charleston—no prior experience needed. The experience lasts approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes. We’ll meet at the park entrance, explore the oak-lined areas and marsh edge, then walk the bridge to scan the harbor and surrounding habitat. Each participant will receive a Holy City Birding patch. A spotting scope will be available, and binoculars can be rented if needed. Please wear comfortable clothing and walking shoes appropriate for the weather. What to Expect * Small group experience (maximum 6 participants) * Easy, leisurely walk (about ½ mile round trip) with frequent stops for birding. * Spotting scope available for close-up views * Explore salt marsh, shoreline, harbor, and live oak habitats * Great for beginners and experienced birders alike * Every season offers different birding opportunities. Enhance your experience with optional Bird Patch Hats, embroidered patches, and binocular rentals available at checkout. New to birding? You’re welcome here! While this tour attracts experienced birders, it’s also a fantastic introduction to birding in Charleston. I’ll gladly help beginners learn how to use binoculars, identify common birds, and understand what they’re seeing along the way.
